New Kelani Bridge Project

New Kelani Bridge Project
Steel Elevated Expressway Erection

Advantis Projects completed another milestone project, where it was a main subcontractor for erection works of two sections of Package I – Steel Bridge Section. Also, it was the main equipment provider for the entire Package I.

In 2012 Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) began working on an ambitious project to improve the traffic flow and congestion around the New Kelani Bridge.
In a preparatory study conducted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Oriental Consultants Co. Ltd., and Katahira & Engineers International, it was found that the project is technically and economically feasible and environmentally sound.

By November 2016, Road Development Authority under the Ministry of Ports and Highways commenced the project. The mammoth scale project named “New Bridge Construction Project Over Kelani River”, consisted of two packages.
Package I – Steel Bridge Section – Steel Bridge -922 m Interchanges & Ramps – 1407 m
Package II – Extradosed Bridge Section – Extradosed Bridge – 1185 m

The first package of constructing the elevated steel highway was handled by JMT Joint venture – JFE Engineering Corporation, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and TODA Corporation. The total erection and installation works was divided into four sub-sections. Out of which two will be handled by JMT JV and the remaining two sections would be handled by Advantis Projects & Engineering Private Limited.

The erection & installation of the first package consisted of three parts; erection technical services, equipment & machinery and supply of skilled & unskilled labour.

Apart from the two sections Advantis Projects & Engineering was handling with their own in-house expertise and equipment, they also provided heavy lift cranes and other machinery for the first package including the two sections handled by JMT JV.

In this project, Advantis Projects & Engineering had deployed a total lifting capacity of more than 1,500 tons.
